The Book Arts Association of Newfoundland and Labrador (BAANAL—yes, we love our acronym, and we’re anything but…) is a group of book lovers, makers, collectors, and readers who meet occasionally to discuss and celebrate the art of book making and printing. The organization has hosted wayzgoose celebrations of printing, and co-hosted an edible books competition and tea party. Other events presented by BAANAL include an annual evening of readings commemorating the bombing of al-Mutannabi Street, Baghdad’s famed street of booksellers; presentations about books and bookmaking; workshops; and visits to libraries and printing studios.
