Susan Flanagan

Susan Flanagan has worked as a freelance journalist (BJ, King’s College, NS, 1991) in St. John’s, NL for more than 30 years. Her written works have appeared in Canadian Geographic, National Geographic (maps), Newfoundland Quarterly, The Hockey News, Doctors’ Review, Atlantic Business, and Saltscapes, among others. Susan has been a columnist for both the Newfoundland Herald and the Telegram, and a contributor on CBC Radio. She has worked for both NTV and CBC TV in Halifax and St. John’s as reporter, producer, and researcher. She lives in St. John’s and is married with five children.


Her comedic novel, Supermarket Baby, won the 2019 Percy Janes First Novel
Award.


Running the Goat published The Degrees of Barley Lick (her first YA novel) in 2021. It won an Indie Next Generation Book Award for a second novel.
