Robin Ashby is a paper marbler, bookbinder, author, and researcher whose journey into marbling began through the craft of hand bookbinding. Over the past fifteen years, he has devoted himself to studying, teaching, and advancing the historic art of paper marbling. Robin teaches introductory through advanced workshops at the John C. Campbell Folk School in North Carolina and the School for Bookbinding Arts in Winchester, Virginia. His work is held in the permanent collection of the Museum of Book and Writing at the German National Library in Leipzig, Germany. He is currently writing a series of books on the art, history, and techniques of paper marbling.

In this hands-on introductory workshop, participants will learn the basic materials, tools, and techniques used to create traditional marbled papers. Through guided demonstrations and plenty of time for experimentation, you'll produce a collection of unique marbled sheets while gaining an appreciation for the history and artistry of this centuries-old craft. No previous experience is necessary—all materials are provided.
